Natchez, Mississippi
Overlooking the Mississippi River, The Briars is one of the best-known
plantation homes in historic Natchez. Believed to have been built by
John Perkins in the early 1820s, it was leased by William and Margaret Howell
from 1827 to 1850. Their daughter Varina Banks Howell married Jefferson
Davis in the parlor of The Briars on February 26, 1845.
The home is now a bed & breakfast.
